Bar Hopping Adventures

The most fun I had recently was a trip to Stamford to enjoy the nightlife. My friends and I hit about 6 different bars and clubs in one night and it was spectacular experience. The best part of bar hopping is that alcohol lowers inhibitions and making friends becomes a lot easier. By the end of the night we had about 10 other people in our group and traveled around the area with this mass of people the whole night, getting into clubs without cover charge because someone knew someone else working at the door and free drinks because tips were so large last time it was a thank you for coming back. I personally knew a DJ at one of the clubs who played everything I requested and got the place really riled up.

Never thought raw fish could taste so good

My most recent dinner was sushi at a renowned restaurant in New Haven, Connecticut. I went with 3 friends, we all ordered different things and then we tried each other’s. First I ordered an appetizer of edamame which is steamed soybeans in the pod with salt sprinkled on them and a small bottle of Dragon Lady Sake and a Japanese Swill Beer. The main course included about 8 different sushi rolls ranging from the Spicy Tilapia Roll to a Crunchy Hamachi Roll. The uniqueness of the restaurant lies in the variety of homemade and all natural ingredients added to the sushi. The rice alone they use is made with several different kinds of grain, all whole grain and organic. The filling had all different types of fish from eel to shrimp to salmon beside brie cheese and artichokes and different types of caviar. Sufficed to say I would eat there everyday if I could.

This is Me

Biology Textbook
Image by Amin Tabrizi via Flickr

I am a 21 year old college student majoring in Biology; I am hoping to go to Physician Assistant school in about a year and a half. My main hobbies are hanging out with friends, music, and playing the guitar. My friends say I tell the best stories mainly because I remember a lot of detail and can put a lot of passion into telling the story. I love learning and I love teaching things, mainly having to do with medicine or Biology. I plan on becoming a part time professor after I obtain my degree. I am very thrifty with my money and work very hard to pay for everything myself including school, my car, and every other expense a college student has. I am pretty easy going and am willing to talk to anyone. I believe an open mind is necessary nowadays due to the increasing diversity of our country and world.

Work Hard, Play Harder

Over the weekend I went to work and hung out with my friends. On Friday night I was exhausted from the long school week and only watched a movie and then fell asleep. Saturday morning I woke up at 6am to be at work by 7am and worked until 7pm. That may seem like a long day but I have a very interesting job and I enjoy every minute of it. On Saturday night right after I got out of work I met up with my girlfriend and two other friends and went to one of the best sushi places in Connecticut and then hung out at my friend’s house and watched a movie. On Sunday I went to work again 11am-7pm and then went to see Paranormal Activity which is not as scary as it seems.

Volunteer Lighthouse Keeper

My favorite vacation this year involved being a volunteer lighthouse keeper at Little Sable Point Lighthouse in Mears Michigan. The experience was awesome; the Sable Point Lighthouse Keepers Association provided us with free housing for the week, and we opened the lighthouse each morning and conducted tours for guests. We made a decent amount of money over the Labor Day weekend, and hope to see the results in the renovations and repairs the association plans to make to the lighthouse (including working restrooms). It was a wonderful time and we met some very interesting and some nice people during our stay.

Cleveland, Ohio

I live in Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland is a former manufacturing giant located on Lake Erie. Today, however, the steelyards are gone and the biggest industry in Cleveland is healthcare. The Cleveland Clinic has a worldwide reputation for healthcare excellence, and the county’s third largest employer is also a hospital – the University Hospital healthcare system. People who live in Cleveland and east of Cleveland in Ohio often share more characteristics with people in the Eastern states than those who live in the Midwest. People who live west of Cleveland in Ohio are usually very much Midwesterners in attitudes and culture.

Tahquamenon Falls Attire

Today I am dressed very, very casually in old blue sweats and a t-shirt from a recent expedition to Tahquamenon Falls, in upper Michigan. Since I have been sitting around the house most of the day, I haven’t yet bothered to put on either socks or shoes, which I will have to do before I go to pick up my daughter from her after-school activities. Because my hair is curly and disarrayed, I have pulled it back with an orange scrunchie – which doesn’t match the blue at all but does happen to be my favorite color, and clashes nicely with red hair.

Gone with the Wind

My favorite movie is “Gone with the Wind.” Yes, it’s an old one, but it’s still an awesome movie. I don’t think anyone was ever better looking or more convincing as Rhett Butler than Clark Gable, and who but Vivian Leigh could ever have played Scarlett effectively? It’s a romantic look at a very sad and painful time in our nation’s history, and I wish we didn’t have to look back and admit that those things happened and we treated people in our country as we did. All we can do is learn the lessons of history and move forward into the future, vowing not to repeat the mistakes that our ancestors made.

My faith in God

My faith in God means a lot to me. It is the center of my life, as well as my life with my family and my relationships with my friends. Like every other person, I fall short every day. But I have learned that God doesn’t call me to be perfect – He calls me to do my best and to try hard each day to do the things He would have me do. He knows I can never reach perfection on my own, but expects me to strive toward it by imitating the actions and attitudes of His Son, Jesus Christ. My grandmother taught me at her knee to walk in the Christian way, and it is something from which I could never imagine parting.

Cardiac Cath Lab

My favorite job was working as a nurse in the cardiac cath lab. I had the opportunity to see many people and learn many things, and the people with whom I worked were absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately, I don’t do day shifts well, and the overtime was a strain on my family situation, so I had to leave that job and do something less satisfying. I will always count that as my favorite job, though, because of the excellent people with whom I worked, the manager (she was the best manager I have ever had), and the things that I learned. Working there was a lot of fun – and the pay was excellent!
